Bagage is a experimental font generator, that uses a questionnaire to determine the personality of the user and creates a custom font. Based on the theories of Donald E. Knuth and Douglas R. Hofstadter in the 1980s about the unification of type, in connection with the theory about “the stroke” by Gerrit Noordzij, a font was designed that can be transformed into different font classifications by using variable font technology. This 5-axis variable font thus forms the base of this generator, which receives its final form by means of input variables from the questionnaire. A specially developed algorithm then determines the personality and transfers the values to the font. The result is a specially developed font based on the personality of the user. To achieve this, all you have to do is answer a catalog of 20 questions and the personal font is displayed on screen. By clicking the download button, your personal font file will be generated in .ttf format and downloads it to your computer (desktop only).
This font can be used free for personal projects. For more information about the use and rights, have a look at the EULA. “Bagage Custom Font Generator” was developed at the University of the Arts Berlin under supervision of Prof. Fons Hickmann, Pascal Kress and Prof. Dr. Kathrin Peters.
